Running Through Resistance (You’ll Be Glad You Did)

Resistance.

When you’re tired, sore, stiff, moody, or just not feeling it.

Resistance.

When it’s cold, hot, windy, humid, raining, or anything else other than ideal.

When you haven’t even started yet and you’re already wishing you were done.

Resistance.

You want to find resilience – not resistance.

So you push back…with resistance.

You know you have it in you, as you climb higher, move faster, and each breath gets deeper.

Deep down you feel it – endurance, energy, and two powerful legs that were made for this. Not only that, but you’re grateful you can even do it. Think of the trouble you’d be in if you couldn’t run. Move. Breathe. Feel. Get out. Explore. Live.

Resistance doesn’t mean it’s time to pack it in. Sometimes it’s like the tension in a sling shot to propel you forward.

Sometimes it’s THE sign you need… to know that you’re on the right path.

Sometimes the best things are the most exhausting and exhilarating – the hardest endured and the easiest to remember.

Every runner will admit to resistance. Every person who’s ever pushed past the seduction of skipping it, dropping it, not starting it, or not finishing it. Resistance.

Anyone who’s met resistance on the trail, in their business, at the gym, or in their creative work, will attest to its power to change you.

Resistance is just a reminder that you’re pushing the dial, tipping out of your comfort zone, or on the brink of escaping it altogether.

When you’ve met the opposition, and you’re still thinking about doing it anyway, you realize there’s more where that came from.

You know for sure, that feeling alive on two legs as you fly down the trail is as good as it gets today. You know that resistance is your chance to embody this truth:

You are not here to be defeated, depressed, or undeserving.

You are here to run…and you’ll be glad you did.
